Spam Me Please, I'll Have Another!
This video is about the real Spam but it sure does fit the bill for the electronic variety as well:
Ads, advertising, spam, the scourge of entertainment communication! And what model do advertisers base their trade on to ply their wares to the consumers? The illegal drug trade of course.Give it away free until the user can't live without it, promote it with incremental ads of its virtues, then start charging nominal fees slowly increasing with usage. What a business model, and proven effective too!
I remember when Hulu first started, No ads, little visual advertising. Then it was one ad at the beginning of your show, then one at the beginning and one at the end. Now? I couldn't tell you because I stopped going there because of the ads. Does this sound familiar Cable subscribers? Remember when AMC was commercial free? Now, when you get to the last hour of the movie you get 4 minutes of movie and 5 minutes of commercial. Newspapers, yes, they still publish those people! I will not patronize any establishment that physically attaches their ads to the comic section. You know, that 1/3 page flap that gets in the way when your trying to read the first page. Economy Garages will never get my business, not that they ever would anyway. And, I miss Papa John's take and bake pizza but, as spiteful as it sounds, I have to draw the line somewhere. And yes, I do email these folks and tell them why I don't patronize them anymore. Most email back to tell me sorry chum, we have to make a buck too. C'est la vie!
Ok, this rant has gone on long enough. Tune in next time when "Pet Peeves and Pistols" are the hot topics of the day. Or not!
Meanwhile, back at the Ad department, someone is screwing the Spam!
You missed NASCAR's 500 mile commercials with a few racing up dates. Ever flip channels to the race to get the running order or maybe catch a few laps, You guess it there on commercial. But I guess they gotta make a buck too. hey.
